How To Choose The Best Wedding Venue For You

This is one thing you need to make sure you get right.

How To Choose The Best Wedding Venue For You

One of the first things on your wedding planning to-do list is usually booking the venue. But choosing the best wedding venue for you can actually be one of the most difficult decisions to make.

So we want to help you do your homework and make the right decision. Are you ready?

What’s your wedding theme?

In order for you to choose the best wedding venue for you, you need to know what kind of wedding you actually want. Do you want a beach wedding? Barn wedding? Traditional wedding? Do some research on the venues that are available around your area.

Make sure you talk to your partner about what you both want. Whether it’s a church wedding or an unconventional ceremony, indoor or outdoor and so on. You want to have a clear idea of your overall theme before you even start visiting venues, or else you won’t know what you’re looking for.

How many guests are you having?

A lot of people think the guest list is one of the last things to think about, but it’s actually the first thing to decide. Your venue and suppliers will all be asking how many guests you think you’ll be having, so it’s important to have a rough number in mind.

There’s no point in looking at a venue that only caters for 50 people and you want to invite 100. And on the flipside, there’s no point in looking at venues that can cater for 350 people when you only want a small ceremony. This is important to take into account.

Put a limit on how many venues you view

We would definitely recommend initially only viewing around 5 venues. Usually, you know as soon as you step into it that it’s the one for you. We didn’t actually know our wedding venue was a venue as we went to a wedding fair there, but we fell in love with it straight away. It sounds cliche but it’s true!

Make sure you also take your budget into account and take into consideration what different venues offer. Some couples miss out on finding out they’re paying a fortune for a venue when not everything is included.

Here are some other things to consider when choosing the best wedding venue for you:

  • Check whether the venue offers enough car parking for all your guests, how close it is to the venue and whether the path is well lit.
  • Ask about the venue’s noise policy.
  • Always ask about what happens if there’s bad weather and what their ‘plan B’ is.
  • Take a look at the interior style of the venue. You don’t want to have to change this or for it to look aesthetically out of place.
  • Make sure all places within the venue easy to access for all the guests.
  • Check whether the venue includes accommodation in their package, as well as what alternative accommodation there is. If you do have a list of other accommodation suggestions, a great idea is to include this on an information card when you send out your invitations.

Once you’ve got all the basics covered there are then a few other things that are worth thinking about:

  • If there are any additional fees, make sure you know what these are!
  • Check whether the venue supplies enough tables, chairs, linen, cutlery, glassware, and crockery for your guests.
  • Ask about how the venue organises a wedding in terms of staff. You want there to be more staff than not enough so this is important to check. You also want to make sure there is someone to oversee the running of the day (this is usually called a Master of Ceremonies). This will save you a lot of hassle and worry on the big day itself!
  • Check whether food is included in the cost and if not, ask for a list of preferred caterers they like to work with.
  • Ask about the bar facility and what drinks are usually stocked for a wedding (you don’t want to run out of champagne!)

While there might be a lot to consider when it comes to choosing the best wedding venue for you, you might find that the venue will find you.
