Read our complete guide on finding the best bridesmaid dresses for your girls.
Choosing bridesmaid dresses can usually be even more difficult than choosing your own wedding dress.
From your bridesmaids’ own personal style, colour scheme and sizes, there’s so much to take into account. You also want to make sure that their dresses complement your own and the overall theme of your wedding.
That’s a lot to think about, isn’t it? Well, you don’t have to worry. We’ve made the whole thing easier for you with our guide on how to choose the perfect bridesmaid dresses.
It’s no secret that every bridesmaid’s worst nightmare is being forced into a dress that they absolutely hate. Ask them what sort of styles they’d prefer to wear and if they have anything they definitely don’t like.
They might not want something tight-fitting or something that shows off their cleavage. So try to find some different styles and then take them with you to get their opinion. The most important thing is to pick a bridesmaid dress that they all feel comfortable in, so it’s better doing that as a team.
Think about how long your bridesmaids will be wearing their dresses for – it could be twelve hours or more! Make sure that they feel comfortable in them. Consider dresses that are too tight, ones that you can’t wear a bra with or that they have trouble walking in. You don’t want one of them falling over!
This is down to personal preference, but if you’re really struggling to find one dress to suit all your bridesmaids, you could try a convertible one. This is a dress that can be tied in lots of different ways and they have become really popular as they can be adapted for bridesmaids of different heights and sizes. If you get it right, the photos will look great!
Definitely ask your bridesmaids to add their own accessories, as this makes their overall look much more personal. You’ll have to decide if you’re going to do this with shoes, as they’ll be wearing those for a long time too.
When picking your bridesmaid dresses, it’s important to think about the decisions you’ve already made for your wedding day. What’s your colour scheme? What style are you going for? What flowers have you chosen? Think about how all of these things will complement each other, and the bridesmaid dresses too.
Remember, it’s your day and you want to shine in your wedding dress. Bridesmaids look wonderful when they wear something understated and elegant. Avoid anything that’s too over-the-top or shows too much skin, especially if you’re getting married in a church. And don’t dress them in something frumpy either. You want to aim for their dresses to complement yours.
This isn’t always possible but it’s always worth trying to look for dresses that your bridesmaids will be able to wear again. They could always be transformed into a post-party outfit eventually!
Spending time in the dress will let you know if it’s the right fit for your bridesmaids. If there’s a faulty zip or it’s too long or tight, adjustments will need making and you don’t want to realise that on the day of the wedding. Get them to try them on closer to the day and see if they need any adjustments.
Whether you’re paying for the dresses or your bridesmaids’ are paying for them themselves, don’t opt for a really pricey dress. Remember, they might not wear it again.
