How To Choose The Best Wedding Event Planner For You

When you're looking for a wedding planner, these simple steps will keep you on track.

How To Choose The Best Wedding Event Planner For You

So you’ve decided to hire a wedding event planner to help you plan your big day. We think that’s a great decision! Many couples underestimate the amount of time and hard work it takes to plan a wedding. Plus some of the prep work can actually be quite tedious and stressful.

A wedding event planner can help shorten your to-do list, which allows you to organise the fun bits, as well as carry on with your commitments in your day-to-day life.

If you think about how personal a wedding is and how much work it takes, you need to make sure you get someone to do the job properly. It’s also important to have a connection with them. They need to be able to understand your ideas and vision for your big day and be capable of transforming that into reality.

To help you find a wedding event planner that will make your dreams come true, we’ve got four of the most important questions you need to ask. Make a note of them and let’s narrow down that shortlist.

1. What services do you offer?

The role of a wedding event planner varies greatly by how much they do and how involved they are. Do they just deal with logistics or do they get more creatively involved in the planning? Before you even meet with a planner, sit down with your partner and decide how much help you want and need for your big day.

You’ll find that a large part of the planning can be done by your friends and family. For instance, your bridesmaids could find and book dress shops and your mum could look at price comparisons for the flowers. You could even have a DIY afternoon with your bridal party.

It might be that you want to do the planning, so you just need someone to coordinate everything on the day. This means your planner will make sure everything runs smoothly and nobody is worrying about whether the cake has arrived or if the fairy lights are working properly. But if your friends and family are just as busy as you, go for a planner who can organise the whole day.

Take a look at what different packages they offer so you can choose one that will fulfil your requirements. And don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as you want.

2. How much are your services and how do you charge?

Once you’ve decided on your package, it’s time to talk money. A professional wedding event planner will know that a wedding is always planned with a budget in mind. They should have no problem explaining their different pricing options along with how they charge. For instance, it could be:

  • By the hour
  • A percentage of the overall wedding cost
  • A flat rate

If the package you choose is out of your budget, ask if it is possible to tailor the service and pricing to your needs. Be sure to get the quote in writing and read all the small print. You don’t want to come across any other hidden costs that may appear during the process.

3. How many weddings have you planned?

Now, we appreciate that everyone has to start somewhere with their business. But we highly recommend opting for a wedding event planner that has more than a couple of weddings under their experience. You need to be assured that if something did go wrong (which we hope it won’t), they have the skills and expertise to resolve the issue quickly. You’ll find that this usually comes with experience.

A wedding event planner that has had experience in the industry for a while will also have build up a list of quality, trustworthy suppliers. They will be able to recommend these to you so you can use them if you want to. All of this experience will help to make sure your big day runs smoothly and is everything you want it to be.

4. Can you provide us with a portfolio and references?

We’re not being cynical here. But unfortunately, there are some people out there who may exaggerate their experience and reputation. Protect yourself against being scammed by doing your homework and researching potential wedding planners.

Whoever you meet with, ask them to provide you with a portfolio of previous weddings and events. You can also ask for contact details of brides and wedding suppliers who can offer references. Be sure to Google them too in case there are any online reviews.

We understand the journey that you will go on when planning your wedding and can be there with you every step of the way as you turn your dreams into a reality. Book your appointment to meet with a wedding event planner here.
