Your Ultimate Week Before The Wedding Planning Checklist

A handy timeline of all the things you need to do.

Your Ultimate Week Before The Wedding Planning Checklist

After your months of hard work, the final countdown to the big day is here! With one week to go, we thought it would be helpful to create a handy checklist.

So here is your week before the wedding planning checklist to ensure things are not left to the last minute! This is a must-read for all brides and grooms.

Wedding Planning Checklist: One Week To Go

  • Make sure you’ve finalised your guest list and finalise your table plan.
  • Arrange and collect your final engagement ring cleaning.
  • Do a final wardrobe check for the bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen and other members of the bridal party, making sure you have all the essentials and pack them away safely.
  • Practice wearing your wedding shoes. If they have slippery soles you may want to lightly buff or scuff them to give them a bit of a grip.
  • If you are renting your groomsmen suits, nominate the best man or one of the groomsmen to pick them up and drop them off on the return date.
  • Confirm your beauty and hair appointments as well as the morning of schedule with your hair and makeup artists, and with your wedding car company.
  • For the groom, get a haircut with just a week to go to make sure it’s neither too long or too short.
  • Share and communicate your wedding day timeline to your bridal party, parents and your wedding or venue coordinator. You can also create and share a list of contact numbers for everyone within the bridal party in case you can’t get hold of the bride and groom).
  • Call to confirm all the details with your suppliers such as timings and locations. Don’t forget to tell them if you will have a wedding planner on the day and provide them with contact information for them or the person of contact on the day itself.
  • Make sure your photographer and videographer has your chosen shot list and your band or DJ has your song list (if needed). You can also make sure your venue knows when each supplier will be arriving to set up.
  • If you’re going on your honeymoon soon after the wedding, do some last minute shopping for your travel needs and pack them away. Place your passport, travel documents and currency somewhere together safe.
  • For vows and speeches, make sure you do any final edits and practice to calm the nerves.
  • Visit your dentist for any teeth cleaning needed.
  • If you are getting ready at home or have guests staying with you for the wedding, prep your home. Change any sheets and make sure you have enough guest towels etc.

Wedding Planning Checklist: 2-3 Days To Go

  • Go for your spray tan.
  • Go for your manicure and pedicure (and buy the colours you end up using to fix any accidental last-minute chips).
  • Massage, waxings and all your other preening and prep (no facials at this stage please).
  • Make any last minute changes to the table plan if necessary.
  • Pack up any ceremony or reception decor items in separate boxes for easy transport and setting up. It’s also a good idea to put together a sample place setting. Take a snap, then place all items in a bag or box for each table containing everything that will be placed on it (e.g. table number, place card, favours, menus, etc).
  • Pack an emergency kit with wedding day must-haves such as glue for false lashes, spray deodrant, pins of every kind, bandages, a hairbrush, clear nail polish, a sewing kit etc.
  • If you are giving your bride, groom, mum, dad, bridesmaids or groomsmen gifts before the wedding/morning of, make sure they’re wrapped and ready to go.

Wedding Planning Checklist: 1-2 Days To Go

  • Place final payments and cash tips into separate envelopes for each wedding supplier. Give them to the groomsmen, a trusted friend or family member to pay on your wedding day.
  • Pack your wedding overnight bag and ask someone to deliver it to where you’ll be staying.
  • Ceremony rehearsal.
  • Think about a plan for removing all your decor or gifts from the venue the morning after the big day. Nominate a friend or family member to help if you are heading away on honeymoon.
  • Check in with your bridal party to make sure that they have all their suits and dresses, shoes and accessories from their shirts, ties, socks and cufflinks, to bridesmaids jewellery, bags, cover-ups, etc.

Wedding Planning Checklist: The Day Before

  • If you are planning on doing any decorating yourself, try and get this done as early as your venue allows. And make sure to confirm this with the venue a few weeks before.
  • Drop off place cards, table cards, menus, favours, and table plan to your reception coordinator.
  • Ensure the cake is on track to be delivered to the reception venue.
  • Make sure you have all your essential marriage ceremony documents safe. Nominate someone to bring them to the ceremony the following day.
  • Iron or steam anything that needs doing. The groomsmen will more than likely need to iron their shirts and trousers from being bagged up. And if your dress or bridesmaids dresses have elements that need ironing, now is the time to do this. You don’t want to be pulling out the iron on the morning of the wedding. Make sure to follow your bridal boutique or manufacturers guidelines on the best way to prep the dresses.
  • Have a relaxing lavender bath.
  • Pop the champers in the fridge to chill and get a good night’s sleep!
